Our History

Serving London and area since 1939

Our history’s written in hardwood

I took my first steps on a hardwood floor installed by my father and as the third generation in the family business, I know that flooring has always been what the Gibsons do best.

When my grandfather, Russell Garnet Gibson, opened his flooring business in 1939, he met the demand for solid wood flooring in the growing city of London, Ontario. At that time, homeowners preferred domestic species such as maple, oak & ash.

Grandpa Russell passed the business on to my father, Don and under Don, RG Gibson & Sons earned a solid reputation for installing flooring in bowling alleys. You’ll also find examples of RG Gibson & Sons’ work in local landmarks such as Centennial Hall, Kingsmills, and more recently, the Coldstream Community Centre.

In 2000, I bought the business from my father. Although the core of our business is still hardwood installation and refinishing, I’ve expanded the business to cater to changing tastes in interior design. We now offer tile flooring, wood laminate floors and even cork. We don’t install carpets. We’ve also expanded our territory to include rural communities and smaller cities around London, Ontario.

In 2010, a fire forced my wife and I to move the showroom to a temporary location. We’re now back at 1895 Blue Heron Dr. near Hyde Park and Fanshawe Park Road where we’ve been for over 25 years. Come out and see us!
